These marbled plates are a contemporary twist on classic enamelware. Each piece is individually handmade by master artisans in Istanbul.
Made by fusing glass onto heavy-gauge steel, the plates are machine mulled or hand-formed, glazed and then fired at high temperature in a traditional kiln. Depending on where the plate is placed in the kiln, the position impacts the colour intensity of the product. The traditional marbling technique - a combination of the artisan's hand and chance - emerged in Anatolia and dates back to the 15th century.
If looked after, this timeless classic enamelware can last a lifetime.
