This Aperitivo Trio transports you to Sicily with every delicious mouthful. In Italy, aperitivo is a way of life, the event of enjoying both food and drink, taking time to pause and reflect. Derived from the Latin aperire, the tradition is meant ‘to open’ the stomach before dining, where small bites known as stuzzichini are eaten alongside a refreshing aperitif.
Pesto alla Trapanese, made with rich, Val di Noto almonds, capuliatu tomatoes and pecorino cheese pairs wonderfully with the U Capuliata, a paste of minced, sun dried tomatoes, rehydrated in Sicilian extra virgin olive oil from the Iblei mountains. Caponata Siciliana, a classic, sweet and sour vegetable mix consisting of plump, Sicilian aubergines and peppers offers texture alongside a subtle yet sweet tomato sauce. All three aperitivos are made in Sicily, in small batches and perfectly capture the essence of the beautiful island.
