Christian’s paintings of flowers in vases are as far removed from sentimentality as is possible to get, her flowers are apparently untidy, almost random, while the bases of the vases themselves often break the frame, providing an edgy, dynamism to the image. In Black and White Hedgerow Flowers she has used a combination of smudged areas and strongly defined, thick black paint, with white highlights, to create a monochrome work that recalls the graphic quality of Japanese woodblock prints. In common with all her paintings, the result is a work of great power and beauty.
Christian works in many media but mainly oil paints. Living in Hampshire, she draws great creative inspiration from the ever-changing landscape that surrounds her. She works from a rural studio, which is part of a group of farm buildings, from where she also runs an art school called College Arts (currently offering on-line courses). Running this means that she is immersed in the conversations and work of other artists as well as inspirational teachers. The art school holds annual exhibitions in Hampshire and last year Christian exhibited at the Green and Stone Gallery in London SW3. Please click on this link for more information about Christian.
