David Hopkins is a realistic, figurative British painter based in London.
Viewers usually notice the wide variety of his work, its rich saturated colours, bold compositions and many layers of refinements. David graduated from Central St. Martins School of Art London in 1996, subsequently following many specialist painting and drawing courses to perfect his technical skills. His artworks over 30 years have been consistent yet varied, united by their fluent and increasingly skilful painting technique.
All his paintings, however varied, are portraits, whether of friends, models, fruit and vegetables, mobile phones, everyday objects around the studio, domestic interiors or outside locations.
Although personally David might seem typically English, he was born in Germany, grew up partly in Gibraltar and lived in Italy and Spain. His influences have been equally rich and diverse – contemporary and classical British, Spanish and international figurative painters and portraitists, as well as Baroque and Byzantine art. And not excluding abstract painting…
