James Connolly is a Gloucestershire sculptor who works extensively in stone, terracotta, plaster, cast resins and metals. Initially inspired by the direct carving school of Constantin Brancusi, he has developed an individual style of sculpting, in which he seeks to abstract and harmonise the human figure into its essential blocks of form and interlocking shapes.

Alongside this patient toil of the stone carver, James also casts various resin, plaster and metal sculptures, usually modelling the original in clay. He also paints both figurative and abstract oils on canvas.

Much of his work is from private commissions, and he also teaches sculpture from his studio and exhibits widely.

This compelling sculpture is carved from Carrara marble, paired with bronze resin, and stands on a marble plinth.

More of this talented sculptor's works are on display in our lovely Burford Art Gallery.
