In Early Morning Up the Avenue, Jane has thickly layered paint on the canvas with a palette knife and used brushes loaded with paint; additional descriptive texture is added to some of the areas with scoring. The cool tones of the woodland are shot through with an almost acid yellow, beautifully describing the chill of first light when the sun hits the ground before it starts to warm the countryside.
Jane explains that she started painting ‘as a distraction from the stresses of a busy life as a full time GP… Painting has been life changing and has altered the way I see the world, looking at light and skies in a way I have never done before’. Very quickly Jane became immersed in painting. She describes her style as semi abstract, and her love of colour is reflected in her adoption of a strong palette. Her subject choice ranges from still life to landscapes and seascapes, particularly inspired by her travels.
Initially self-taught, she received some formal tuition and now successfully exhibits locally in the Cotswolds.
