Typically, Martin has approached a block of pristine, white Portland stone with extraordinary sensitivity and created something both expressive and monumental. Like a stylised plume of water or a breaking wave, the sculpture appears to branch out of the base and expand into multiple curves. The texture is smooth and tactile; the curved lines are different but complementary on both sides. The result is a fascinating interplay of descriptive light and shadow across the form which would have great impact in a garden setting.
A full-time stone sculptor in the Cotswolds, continuing the skills, traditions and origins of stone sculpture, Martin Cash uses predominantly British stone to carve one-off pieces. Nothing matches the durability, feel, elegance and exclusivity of stone sculpture. Martin resists making copies of his work in other media, preferring that each sculpture is a unique artwork that will last for generations.
