With loose brushstrokes in oil paint and a lightness of touch that is distinctive of her style, Penelope has described a hot, rural scene entitled Arriving. Sunlight filters through trees, casting intriguing silhouettes of dark shadows on the sun-dappled ground, and the subtle use of perspective draws the viewer in, along the path, presumably, to a point of arrival.
Born in 1942 in Buckinghamshire, Penelope studied Fine Art at Portsmouth College of Art where she specialised in drawing and sculpture, continuing her art studies in Rome and Florence. She has spent most of her life living abroad, particularly around the Mediterranean. Internationally collected for her miniature, surreal and wildlife paintings, she is currently working on larger and much freer oil paintings and pastels, concentrating on places that particularly catch her imagination. A particular facet of her work is a sense of mysticism she adds to the physical scenes before her.
