Plum’s cerebral approach to the process of her painting is best summed up in her own words:
‘My work is often based on an experience of place and its resolution evolves through a combination of intention, intuition and improvisation. It is trying to reveal something new about a subject as well as capturing its essence'.
The result of this process, as revealed in her Cornish landscape, Kernow: Time Shuddered and Slowed, is thoughtful, powerful and disarmingly beautiful. The abstract landscape is a synthesis of colour and texture, the work built up with a mixture of oil paint, cold wax pigment and collage. To great effect, Plum has painted an integral, textured, white border to the golden landscape, scattered with manmade objects below a brooding sky.
Plum studied at the University of Gloucestershire for five years, gaining a Distinction for the Foundation Course and a BA in Fine Art, and she won the prestigious Grant Thornton Travel award. She has worked as a painter for many years since graduating, and her work has been highly acclaimed and extensively exhibited in Britain (the RA Summer Exhibition on various occasions), and abroad. Her paintings are in collections all round the world. Plum lives and works in Cheltenham and practises Nichiren Buddhist.
