Highly realistic and superbly observed, cast bronze Liberty typifies Teresa’s extraordinary insight to the beauty and conflict that can be represented through human anatomy. Wonderfully described, Liberty stretches out expressive hands and feet, her whole body, not merely her face, conveying emotion. The pared down, geometric steel base is designed not to detract from the sculpture.
Teresa’s work is highly figurative, inspired particularly by the idealised physiques of ballet dancers and athletes, but importantly she places these perfect bodies in stressful, precarious poses that point towards vulnerability and fragility. This tension reflects Teresa’s preoccupation with the psychological disposition that is integral to the human condition, an insight heightened by her observations that modern life imposes enormous pressure.
Teresa Wells is a highly acclaimed, award-winning sculptor. A member of the Royal Society of Sculptors (MRSS), her work has featured all over the country in such diverse places as Saatchi Art and the Cotswold Sculpture Park. Her first degree was in Fine Art at Nottingham Trent University then an MA from Loughborough University.
