Producing large, dense and flattened clusters of tiny, red flowers above grey-green, fern-like foliage clinging to the erect stems, Achillea millefolium New Vintage Red is a pretty, drought-tolerant addition to a herbaceous border. The flower heads last for several weeks in late summer, and it repeat blooms, unlike most other achilleas. Also unusually, the flower colour doesn't fade in the sun.
Robust and disease resistant, it is a relatively compact, clump-forming, deciduous to semi-evergreen perennial that is easy to grow, though short-lived. The foliage is fragrant and attracts butterflies and bees. Plant in an open, sunny border, or in a container. Great paired with hot colours, other silvery plants, deep blues or with grasses. Leave the attractive seedheads on until shortly before the new growth begins.
Popular as a cut flower, fresh or dried.
