Inspired by the late-Victorian plate illustrations by Henry J Ford in her childhood copy of ‘The Yellow Fairy Book’ by Andrew Lang, ‘Woodnymph’ is sculpted directly from life by the artist within one day. A whimsical yet vulnerable pose is deeply apparent of this woodland inhabitant.

Holding early memories dear of digging clay out of a garden with her grandfather and modelling a dog, Baxter has evolved into a highly successful sculptor. Closely considering the ‘balance, gravity, volume and grace’ of a piece, she hopes that the viewer will also experience these thought processes upon close observation.

Trained at Camberwell School of Art in bronze foundry casting and arc welding techniques, Baxter went on to work for 12 years in the toy and giftware industry until she was able to procure a studio in Gloucestershire and undertake sculpture on her own terms. She lives and works in Monmouthshire.
