During your Visit
There is much to do and see at Burford Garden Company, which we hope appeals, to all ages and a multitude of different interests. Here is a brief description of the departments which work alongside our large plant area in bringing together a varied selection of intriguing, desirable and practical things to help make daily life that bit more special.
To plan your visit, and before you start exploring our 21-acre site, you may like to know about our two cafes. For more details click here.
Our Main Café is a foliage-filled, airy space within the main building, offering an outstanding seasonal menu of fresh, locally supplied food, all of which is prepared on site. It is perfect for light or 'serious' breakfasts, mouth-watering lunches or superb cakes and patisseries, accompanied by different drinks throughout the day.
Planters Café (Reopening March 2022)
Planters is our more rustic, outside café situated in the leafy shelter of the Bedding Tunnel. Benefitting from fresh air, we have equipped Planters with garden heaters and warm throws to keep you comfortable while you select delicacies from a menu that is similar to that of the Main Café, but a little simpler.
Once a well-kept local secret, our Christmas Department has become a festive destination, attracting visitors from afar. It offers sparkling inspiration for traditional and contemporary decorative schemes in a venue that takes on the guise of a glittering, winter wonderland.
One of our main ambitions is to find items that are new and inspirational for your home. Here we have carefully curated contemporary furniture alongside luxurious home accessories, such as cushions and lamps as well as artisanal ceramics and kitchenware. Brimming with locally sourced, hidden gems next to fascinating treasures imported from far flung places.
As you would expect we specialise in an array of gardening equipment that has been carefully selected with our usual attention to detail. This includes a remarkable collection of Japanese implements alongside glistening copper tools. We also stock garden essentials ranging from simple seed trays to peat-free composts and fertilizers which are, and wherever possible, eco-friendly.
Outside, we have a huge collection of superb plants, the varieties changing with the season. In spring and summer the Cottage Garden herbaceous area comes into its own, alongside a large collection of climbers and a mass of glorious roses. Across the year we stock robust deciduous or evergreen shrubs and trees. We also specialise in containers and garden features made from diverse materials such as terracotta, Corten steel and zinc.
Managed by our team of enthusiastic experts, our Houseplant department offers one of the most extensive selections in the UK. From dramatic Philodendrons and Monsteras, to fascinating succulents and variegated Calatheas, our miniature rainforest within the Cotswolds is quite breathtaking.
Warmer weather brings the prospect of living outside from dawn to dusk. All year round we stock robust but beautiful garden furniture designed to extend the enjoyment of your garden. We have classic metal and wooden furniture made in England, alongside more Bohemian mango wood furniture from India as well as contemporary design pieces from Europe. We also supply a popular selection of barbecues, kadais, and firepits.
A haven for the inquisitive mind, we have curated the Reading Room to celebrate great design and captivating reading. Located left of the entrance, our Reading Room holds an array of intriguing literature, in addition to unique items such as antique furniture, board games and even historical artefacts.
Those who relish the finer gastronomic things in life will be inspired by the delicacies in the Food Hall, selected with typical Burford care. A festival of all things epicurean, our assortment of food is ever-changing to ensure freshness, vibrancy, and above all, exciting flavours. Beyond the Food Hall is an area devoted to expertly chosen, carefully made beers, wines, and spirits – some tried and tested, others sparklingly new.
Our children's emporium, Little Burford, is full of wonderful items which encourage fun and adventure. From outdoor play and fabulous pedal cars to the essential Steiff bears, there is a wide selection to inspire your little ones into happily learning from play.
We have recently created a Sculpture Garden, leading from the gallery, with a purpose-built pond attracting natural wildlife, the intention is to exhibit sculptures as they are intended to be seen, under natural light in an open air setting. For further details see here.
Natural Play Area
We have created a wooden adventure trail adjacent to our carpark at Burford. This Natural Play area offers a gentle backdrop to play within the leafy landscape. Relax a while and enjoy watching your children have the freedom to run a little wild.
