Setting the table with Lucy Hunter & 'The Flower Hunter'

As part of our Candlelit Christmas Shopping Evening, we were delighted to welcome visual storyteller, floral designer and award-winning landscape designer, Lucy Hunter. Known for her seasonal, wild and inherently natural creations, we couldn’t wait to watch Lucy at work, as she joined us to create a Christmas floral table installation before signing copies of her new book, ‘The Flower Hunter’.

As our guests arrived, Lucy built upon a plum toned earthy tablescape of layered natural linens, glass and terracotta, set with the ultimate ‘table gift’ for guests, her latest publication, ‘The Flower Hunter’.

Autumn leaves, winter blooms and foliage, picked from our fresh floral fridges were used to create an abundant still life, meandering down the centre of the table. Lucy’s botanical structures were then enhanced with foraged foliage, freshly picked from her own garden in Wales. Bringing a burst of festive opulence, blush toned miniature orchids potted in simple terracotta with a layer of carpet moss contrasted beautifully alongside the wild and natural pickings from the garden. For a finishing note of whimsy, dried and preserved flower heads added an element of texture and muted colour from last summer’s blooms, paused in time, ready to bring joy throughout the winter season.

The intricacies of Lucy’s display mirrors the sentiment of ‘The Flower Hunter’, encouraging readers to take inspiration from the natural world, pausing to really look, and observe the smallest of details in nature, ready to pick and bring into the home.
