notes

Compiled by Jared Goss, a former curator for the Metropolitan Museum of Art, this beautiful coffee table book illustrates the concepts for Art Deco style with full colour imagery and explores why the design concept that evolved between the World Wars is still popular today.

Insights

At the start of the twentieth century there was a drive to find a new design language that championed the contemporary world. This resulted in Art Deco, short for ‘Arts Décoratifs’, embodying elements of bold colour, geometric pattern, exquisite craftsmanship and a sense of luxury. It influenced small and large designs- from clothing, architecture, advertising, home wares, bridges, to ocean liners and skyscrapers around the world.
