notes
With bright green, heart shaped leaves and orange red flowers, the runner bean, (Phaseolus coccineus) Scarlet Emperor has great impact in the kitchen garden. Introduced in 1633, this is still a popular variety, grown for its classic runner bean flavour. Vigorously twining and climbing its way up the bean pole, this annual variety produces a heavy crop of pods, each up to 30cm (11in) long, straight and smooth and of exhibition quality.
