Features

notes
This thorny, shiny leaved, evergreen shrub produces a mass of small, white flowers in early summer followed by an explosion of long-lasting orange berries that hang in densely packed bunches.
Insights

Commonly grown against walls or fences, the robust pyracantha will fan out farther over time to cover a large area. Its compact branches are a favourite location in which songbirds to build their nests, particularly blackbirds, who return to feast on the berries. If overlooked by the birds, the berries will remain in situ until Christmas. It is a recipient of the RHS AGM (Award of Garden Merit), for all round excellence.
