Insights
Aspidistra are indigenous to the Far East. Introduced to Britain in the 1820s they became hugely popular and eventually, to their cost, symbolised the bourgeoisie, notably in literature. Until the 1980s they had been little researched, but now there is a resurgence in interest and Aspidistras are back! It is a recipient of the RHS AGM (Award of Garden Merit), for all round excellence.

Care
This Aspidistra tolerates all positions except direct sunlight. Water when the soil has nearly dried out (to avoid root rot), do not water during the winter. Give it two or three liquid feeds in the growing season and mist the leaves regularly. Protect from draughts.
