notes
Recently bred in Japan, the enchanting Scabiosa incisa Kudo Pink is particularly prized for its larger than normal flowers. Reassuringly it has lost none of the distinctive prettiness of all Scabious - the pin cushion centre encircled by charmingly ruffled petals. Irresistible to bees and butterflies, it looks marvellous at the front of a herbaceous border or in containers.
Insights

Wild Scabiosa are surprisingly a member of the teasel family, found throughout Europe and common in Britain, proliferating especially on chalky downland. They are a familiar but beloved wild flower, the attractive heads held high above their deeply cut foliage and above surrounding grasses in wildflower meadows.

Details

Long lasting flowers appear from June to September.

Planting
  • Well drained, fertile, moist soil
  • South or west facing
  • Full sun
Care

If you have not cut them for arrangements, deadhead the flowers once they are spent to encourage further flowers. Cut back dead stalks in autumn.
