A large, upright shrub, Viburnum sargentii Onondaga produces wonderful colour for three seasons. Purple/bronze young shoots appear in spring, opening into mature foliage resembling maple leaves - bright green in the summer turning purple in autumn. The attractive lacecap flowerheads in late spring are reminiscent of delicate hydrangeas.

Insights
This Viburnum was discovered in Asia in the late 19th-century and taken to North America where it was bred successfully. The cultivar was named after the Onondaga people whose traditional homeland is in Onondaga County, New York. It is a recipient of the RHS AGM (Award of Garden Merit), for all round excellence in the garden.
Details
From late spring - May onwards - the shrub will be covered with blue flowers which will last for about six weeks.
