The award-winning Hydrangea macrophylla Zorro is completely attention grabbing, whether planted in a border or as a statement in a container. Shapely and dramatically dark, almost black stems bear startlingly beautiful flattened lacecap flowerheads. Each star-shaped floret has a green-tinted white centre flushing a marvellous blue at the edges. In autumn the bushy foliage takes on a golden hue.

Insights
Named after the early 20th century fictional masked vigilante, Zorro is also fox in Spanish. Macrophylla hydrangeas (also known as Lacecap or French hydrangeas) originated in Japan and have spread across the world, becoming naturalised in some countries. This remarkable example is a recipient of the RHS AGM (Award of Garden Merit), for all round excellence in the garden.
Details
The distinctive flower heads appear from July to September and can be cut for dramatic flower arrangements.

Care
Prune back to two healthy matching buds after flowering. In spring cut out dead, damaged or diseased branches. All hydrangeas need water in the summer, this hydrangea prefers partial shade but can be grown in full sun if the soil is kept moist. Toxic if ingested and gloves are recommended.
