A newer variety of runner bean, (Phaseolus coccineus) Equator has great vigour and is suitable for early, mid or late sowing. Drought tolerant, it will still produce a crop even during a hot summer and bears bright white flowers for an attractive summer display. 
  • Plant: from May
  • Harvest: July onwards
  • Well drained soil 
  • South or West aspect
  • Sunny location or partial shade
  • Sheltered 
  • Plant seeds in well-watered and finely prepared soil where they will crop.  Plant at 45cm (1ft 6in) intervals, in rows approximately 5cm (2in) deep.
  • Water well until plants are established. 
  • Support required- use wigwam canes or netting.
  • Pinch out top growth when reaches desired height so plant puts energy into beans
  • Pick regularly to maintain production
  • Raw pods/ beans are harmful to humans and pets if eaten raw
