notes

Rosa Ispahan is one of the earliest old roses to come into flower in the summer and does so with a dramatic splash of mid-pink flowers and intoxicating old rose fragrance. A large Old English Shrub rose its bright matt green leaves are the perfect foil for the mass of colour produced by the flowers. Image courtesy of David Austin Roses.

Please note, our roses are available to purchase all year round, so depending on the time of year your rose may either arrive in bloom or have been pruned or deadheaded appropriately for the season.

Insights

Grown in the David Austin nursery, this rose is of unknown origin, thought to have been bred in the 1830s. The name Ispahan is the anglicised version of Isfahan, the ancient city in Iran to the south of Tehran, once the capital of Persia and a crucial trading stop on the Silk Road, it perhaps alludes to how the rose arrived in Europe.
