Oxfordshire Artweeks

As part of Oxfordshire Artweeks, the city’s largest arts festival, our Burford Gallery is hosting a select number of our artists across the week, from Sunday 18th May. We are delighted to be joined by five of our artists throughout the week, demonstrating how they bring their impressive pieces to life, whilst shedding light upon their practice and answering any questions you may have about their work.

On Thursday 22nd May join us in store to meet artist, Nicky Moeran between 11am and 4pm who will be demonstrating oil painting on several pieces.

Meet Nicky Moeran

Nicky is an award-winning artist based in Southern England, producing works in oil, watercolour and charcoal. Her subjects are primarily landscapes, seascapes and still life arrangements from direct observation.

Each work is started outdoors to make full use of natural light, and then moved to Nicky’s studio in Oxford where the compositions are fully developed and explored. Nicky favours a muted palette, as she states ‘quieter tones that offer the most interesting ways to explore and capture the impact of the shifting balance between light, shade and mood’.

Sometimes what begins as a representational work based on something observed can tip into a bigger story.  The starting point for these narrative paintings is often a mundane object or scene like a shed, bus stop, pathway or washing line around which ‘a plot’ gradually develops itself.

Exhibiting in the United Kingdom, Europe and Australia, we are delighted to present a selection of Nicky’s work and to host her here for Oxfordshire Artweeks
