notes

Launched at 2025 RHS Chelsea Flower Show, the stunning King’s Rose (Ausa27a16) is the first striped rose from David Austin, with no two blooms ever the same. The repeat flowering English shrub rose bears semi-double flowers, striped in fuchsia and white, centred with yellow stamens, that prove highly attractive to bees, with a light-medium musk fragrance, retaining notes of fresh red apple and rosewater. Although reminiscent of an old Gallica rose, The King’s Rose carries the benefit of modern disease resistance, affording it a worthy place in the garden. Images courtesy of David Austin Roses.

Please note, our roses are available to purchase all year round, so depending on the time of year your rose may either arrive in bloom or have been pruned or deadheaded appropriately for the season.

Insights

Named in tribute to His Majesty King Charles III and developed in collaboration with The King’s Foundation, the rose was inspired by a meeting between the then HRH The Prince of Wales with David C.H. Austin at RHS Chelsea Flower Show in 1990s, where they discovered a shared appreciation for a distinctive striped variety, Ferdinand Pichard. Many years later, when this new variety first flowered, David was reminded of this significant meeting.
