A deciduous spiny shrub with glossy, dark green leaves, the Japanese quince, Chaenomeles speciosa 'Kinshiden' makes a wonderful screening plant or wall climber. In the late winter to early spring, it produces attractive, semi -double flowers in a lemony white. The aromatic, green-yellow fruit that follows in late summer is traditionally used to make preserves and jellies.
