- Sow: April – August
- Plant Out / Spacing: 45 cm (18″) between plants
- Harvest: July – October/early November
- Soil: Firm, fertile, well‑drained
- Aspect: Full sun to part shade
- Sowing: Sow seeds in trays under cover or directly into shallow drills (2 cm) in a prepared seedbed.
- Spacing: Transplant or thin to about 45 cm (18″) apart to allow heads to develop fully.
Start seeds in modules or a seedbed and harden off before planting in a sunny spot. Water deeply and consistently, especially as heads begin to form, and protect from pests with fine mesh if needed. Cut the main head just before flowering opens, then enjoy successive side shoots as they develop, perfect for steaming, roasting or adding to summer dishes.
