A medium-early courgette producing smooth, dark green fruits around 18–20 cm long. Nero di Milano is prized for its open, upright habit, making harvesting easy and continuous. A classic Italian variety, it’s ideal for summer dishes and well suited to British gardens.

  • Harvest: July – September
Planting
  • Soil: Moist, fertile, well-drained
  • Aspect: Full sun
  • Indoors: Sow in pots or trays 2 cm deep at 22°C. Harden off once first rough leaves appear and plant out in late May, 60 cm apart.
  • Outdoors: From early June, sow direct 2 cm deep in stations of two or three seeds, spaced 60 cm apart. Thin to strongest seedling.
Care

Water well, especially during fruiting. Regular picking encourages continued cropping. Feed fortnightly with a liquid fertiliser once plants are established.
