Through close observation of textures discovered within dilapidated barns, ancient hedgerows, to wild grasses, streams and soil, Durrant records these elements within her sketchbook prior to developing them into larger pieces on either board or canvas. Creating multiple layers using acrylic paint, graphite, ink and collage, each of the artist’s paintings builds in a similar way to the ever-growing, ever-evolving pattern of nature.

Upon studying Textile Design for her BA and MA, Durrant is well versed in the art of – quite literally – weaving through myriad natural materials, evoking her appreciation for our environment within her body of work. In Durrant’s words, nature holds the “immense power to heal, to stimulate our senses, and enhance our moods.”
