The sweet dessert pear Doyenné Du Comice is one of the most popular pears, beloved for its rich, buttery taste and gentle perfume. It requires another pollinator and bears a light crop of large sized fruit late in the season.


First cultivated during the mid-19th century in the garden of the Comice Horticole, in the town of Angers in the Loire valley, France, this variety is a recipient of the RHS AGM (Award of Garden Merit), for all round excellence in the garden.


Flowers in spring, fruit crops from 3rd week in October, through November

  • Full sun
  • Sheltered
  • Blossoms early so protect from late frosts.
  • Thin fruit if necessary
  • Pick fruit while still firm and allow to ripen indoors
  • Regular pruning required
