notes

With a name that would win you massive points in a spelling bee, this Schizachyrium Scop. Chameleon is rather beautifully understated. The variegated grass is known as Chameleon due to its colour changing foliage - the narrow, striped leaves starting out green and white but gradually changing to shades of pink and purple, with burgundy flower heads in autumn.

Insights

A North American native, abundant in the mid-western prairie states and the grasslands of Texas, means that it is drought tolerant, thriving in full sun. Suitable for small gardens due to its upright nature, although it is not evergreen, its form can be left as an architectural feature through winter.
