Artist

Michael Whittlesea (b. 1938) is a British painter and illustrator renowned for his commitment to traditional techniques and observational detail. Born in London, he studied at Harrow School of Art before embarking on a career in publishing, creating book covers for notable publishers in the 1960s and 1970s. In 1985, he began exhibiting his paintings and was elected to both the Royal Society of Painters in Watercolour and the New English Art Club. Whittlesea's work often features still life elements within landscapes, rendered in oil, watercolour, and charcoal. He has received several accolades, including the Painter-Stainers Award and the Jans Ondaatje Rolls Award for Drawing. His pieces are held in public collections, such as the Bury Museum and Art Gallery.
