Rachel Dein & Louise Johnson, casts from the garden
In March 2024, we were joined in store by renowned artist Rachel Dein and our Creative Director Louise Johnson, who were here to introduce a brand new, exciting collaboration with their range of botanical casts of cuttings taken from our founders’ garden.
Based in north London, Rachel is an accomplished botanical artist working predominantly in the media of plaster and concrete, who developed her distinctive style following a glass moulding workshop she undertook while studying for her Fine Art degree.
Captivated by the astonishing detail she found that the casting process provided, it has continued to inform her artistic approach; and, since then, the success of her work has led to it being widely exhibited across the UK, as well as earning Rachel commissions from the likes of The Royal Opera House, The Globe Theatre, The Dorchester, and The National Trust.
Late last summer, Rachel paid a special visit to the Burford Farmhouse. Met at the gate by Louise, the pair proceeded down the garden path, surrounded by an abundance of home grown beauty, all bathed in a glorious sunshine that is so emblematic of an early September day. With her keen eye, and her secateurs to hand, Rachel was free to snip away at the gorgeous array of fresh flowers from this unique and personal collection.
Now, pressed and cast in concrete, the intricate details of last summer's blooms are yours to own forever with these expertly crafted works of art. Providing the same enduring quality of a still life, these timeless tiles are sure to bring an organic allure to each of your interior spaces.
