How To: Make A Dried Flower Garland

Our Visual Merchandising team is always busy bringing exciting, beautiful ideas to life in our store, and our Dried Flowers area has the perfect setting to create some of our most stunning displays. Inspiration very often comes from the natural world, and many of you may have noticed one of our most recent installations; the reams of vibrantly coloured and textured dried flower garlands - each painstakingly threaded by hand - wistfully swaying from the ceiling.

A stunning visual statement with an innovative twist, these dried flower garlands can also be a lovely way to decorate for a birthday, wedding, or simply to brighten up a window frame. We have assembled a step-by-step guide to help you achieve a similarly dynamic, eye-catching display at home. To see the magnificent results in person, do come visit our dried flower section of the Garden Shop in store.

You will need

Method
  1. Firstly, cut all flowers from the stems as close as you can get to the base of the flower head.

2. Trim the length of twine according to how long you would like your garland to be, taking into consideration the distance you would like between each flower.

3. Arrange your flowers in a line from smallest to largest in order to achieve a neat gradient, however this step is optional if you would prefer a more randomised effect.

4. Starting with the largest (or first) head, push the needle down through the up-turned face of the dried flower, loop out the bottom and back around to the top and thread through again, to ensure the flower stays in its place and does not slip down.

5. Leave your desired gap between the next flower head, then repeat this process until you have threaded all your flower heads onto the twine. Remember to leave enough space at the end of the twine to tie where you would like it to hang.
