notes

Hosta ‘Blue Mouse Ears’ must win the award for the most evocative name, as its leaves are small and neat and a blue green colour. Bell-shaped flowers of pale purple with darker stripes, are held on long stems in late summer, adding to its appeal Supplied in biodegradable pot made from waste coir and natural latex.

Insights

Clump forming, the plantain lily looks great in a border but will also perform well as a specimen in a container. It is a recipient of the RHS AGM (Award of Garden Merit), for all round excellence. Hostas are woodland plants and, as such, thrive in a shady spot away from direct sun, sheltered away from cold winds, with soil that does not dry out. Keep an eye for snails and slugs who are rather partial to its luscious leaves.
