notes
Dappled with gently applied impasto marks, ‘Evening Grazing, Lechlade’ portrays a soothing scene of a herd of cows contentedly grazing, in the heart of the Cotswolds. Imbued in a hazy palette of moss and veridian greens, paired with a peaceful sky and landscape in the background, the viewer is taken on an excursion of pure tranquillity. Such a composition would add an element of softness to any interior setting.
Insights

Working primarily “en plein air”, Long is predominantly interested in capturing the mood or essence of a place in a specific moment in time. Inspired by nature and the changing of the seasons, Long develops a deeper understanding of the landscape from which he is working, resulting in a multitude of quick and lively compositions which exude life and organic beauty.

Artist

After spending a year training at a classical arts academy in Florence, Long returned to his hometown in Oxfordshire to continue his exploration as a full-time painter, having exhibited in numerous group show including the Royal Institute of Oil Painters.
