notes
A prolific flowerer throughout winter and into spring, Helleborus Pippa’s Purple is ideal for bringing colour and interest to the winter garden, so plant along a pathway or in a swathe under trees for impact. The single, cut shaped blooms in a striking purple-pink hue form on upright stems, boasting creamy yellow stamens at their centre.
Insights

Pippa’s Purple is clump forming with leathery foliage. Semi evergreen, it may lose some or all of its leaves if planted in an exposed area. Sometimes referred to as a Christmas rose due to its flowering season, it is, in fact, related to the buttercup.

Details

Care
  • Leave foliage to protect the young buds, but as the hellebore flowers, remove the old foliage to reveal the blooms, this looks attractive and helps to prevent disease. After the first year, top dress with fertiliser in autumn.
  • Caution is required since the whole plant is toxic to humans and animals and can be a skin irritant
