notes

For a dramatic, dark addition to the winter garden, consider Helleborus orientalis 'Lucy', with its nodding, purple (almost black) flowers with yellow stamens, held on dark stems over leathery foliage The clump forming, semi-evergreen perennial thrives in sheltered, woodland settings, offering great visual impact when planted in groups.

INSIGHTS

Hellebores are a particularly pleasing addition to the garden as they are one of the only winter flowering plants, providing much needed colour on a gloomy day. They also offer a valuable source of nectar to foraging insects, especially bees, when little else is in flower.
