notes

Hosta ‘First Frost’ bears a mound of blue, green leaves with creamy white margins, with both colours intensifying as the season progresses. Tubular flowers of pale purple are held on blue, green stems in late summer, adding to its appeal Supplied in biodegradable pot made from waste coir and natural latex.

Insights

Clump forming, the plantain lily looks great in a border but will also perform well as a specimen in a container. Hostas are woodland plants and, as such, thrive in a shady spot away from direct sun, sheltered away from cold winds, with soil that does not dry out. This variety has been reported as being less attractive to slugs and snails than other hostas. In 2010 'First Frost’ was awarded 'Hosta of the Year' by the American Hosta Growers Association and the winner of the Benedict Garden Performance Medal for 2013.
