Features

notes
Sweeter than a Cox, the dessert apple Bladon Pippin has a wonderful flavour with yellow-green skin streaked with red, and juicy, crisp flesh. It is ideal for eating and cooking and stores well over the winter.
Insights

Named after the original tree which grew just a stone’s throw from Bladon Church in Oxfordshire, where Winston Churchill was laid to rest in 1965.

Details
  • Flowers: May
  • Harvest: mid September (keeps well until Jan/Feb)
  • Hardy
Planting
  • Well drained soil
  • South or West aspect
  • Full sun
  • Sheltered
Care
  • Rootstock indicates this is a semi-vigorous bush, suitable as a half standard or for fan/ espalier use.
  • As this is not self-fertile, it will require a pollinator nearby (if you are planting in an urban area, you may not need to plant a partner)
  • Best grown in a sheltered, sunny spot where the blossom can attract pollinators and the fruit can ripen in the sun. Prune annually to achieve the optimum crop.
  • For an increased yield, plant with other apples.
