Agapanthus Silver Baby
- Pot size: 3L
- Height and Spread: 100cm (3ft 3in) x W: 50cm (1ft 7in) in 2-5 years
Originally from South Africa, Nile or African lilies grew from the Cape Province to the Limpopo River. Trade meant that the Agapanthus, under various names, arrived in Europe in the 17th century when it was mainly grown in hothouses. Modern breeding means these flowers now bloom in British gardens. It is a recipient of the RHS AGM (Award of Garden Merit), for all round excellence.
- Flowers: July
- Well drained soil
- East, South or West aspects
- Full sun
- No pruning required
- Leave seed heads for winter interest
- Consider where they are native to understand their treatment - they love sun, and dislike damp, heavy soil. In containers, they are surprisingly happy to become packed in, however if they stop flowering due to overcrowding, they can be divided. Feed after flowering.
