Iris Sable
This beautiful Iris (or one very similar) is in our cultural DNA thanks to Van Gogh’s achingly beautiful paintings of them. Iris Sable commands in the herbaceous border with its blueish green spear-shaped leaves and gently ruffled blooms of velvety purple petals. The flowerheads also have the advantage of attracting native pollinators.

Irises are a traditional garden favourite, being both good looking and reliable performers. This variety looks gorgeous planted en masse in a sunny, well drained border or as part of a cottage garden scheme. They also make excellent cut flowers.

Remove the stems after flowering from the base as this will concentrate the plant's energy into producing new rhizomes. Divide and replant about every three years.
