Sunflower
Sunflower by Mike Ibbotson is an acrylic on canvas piece, where pale yellow blooms sit loosely arranged in a rounded vase against a cool turquoise ground. Softly layered brushwork and inky, gestural marks introduce contrast and movement, balancing freshness with a slightly weathered edge, making it well suited to a relaxed kitchen, studio, or informal living space.

Mike Ibbotson has exhibited with the Royal Society of British Artists after being awarded the RBA ‘Best work on Paper’ prize at one of their annual exhibitions and has also exhibited in the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists Open Prize Exhibition. His artwork flows out of a personal philosophy and approach working from observation, making sketches that describe space, volume and atmosphere, not just the objects in view. Paintings are made from a memory of place and feelings along with observational sketches and an intimacy that comes from the plein air pencil drawings.
