Physocarpus opulifolius Little Red Devil adds dramatic impact to the garden with its striking foliage, which emerges as bright red and matures to burgundy. This foliage bears clusters of pink flowers in summer, which transform into glossy red berries, providing a prolonged interest in the garden and a food source for birds. Its common name is ninebark, due to the peeling of thin layers of its bark once mature.

A member of the rose family, this plant is a popular, fast growing, landscaping shrub and can be planted in a mixed herbaceous border where its moody colour will work particularly well against lime green coloured plants.
