Features

notes

Yew, or Taxus baccata, is a large evergreen shrub often seen growing in churchyards but is more often used as hedging in the garden. The flowers are insignificant, but fleshy red berries appear on female plants in autumn and provide food for birds. All parts of the yew tree are poisonous if ingested.

INSIGHTS

Clipped yew looks superb against a wall or along a terrace. Keep in a pot or plant directly in the ground. Particularly useful for adding structure to an informal garden or parterre, and for creating winter interest. They also add depth to a mixed topiary display.

CARE

Toxic to humans and pets. Trim to desired shape from late-spring to summer, making your last cut in September, to prevent cutting into old wood that could cause brown patches.
