The variegated needle palm, Yukka filamentosa Color Guard, makes a colourful accent in the garden, its arching, evergreen dark green leaves striped with contrasting creamy yellow. This foliage is covered with fine, curly white hairs, adding interesting texture. Panicles of white, bell-shaped flowers are borne in mid-late summer, held on tall, thick stems high above the foliage.

Insights
Native to the beaches, sand dunes and fields of America, it is tolerant of poor sandy soils and heat and drought. Can be planted in a container but also adds architectural interest and year-round colour to dry slopes or borders. It is a recipient of RHS AGM (Award of Garden Merit), for all round excellence.
