notes

Sensational large pink flowers (each up to 6in across) with pointed tips and a white centre grace Clematis Picotee in spring and again in late summer. The large flowers create great impact so train up a trellis, over a pergola or wall to enjoy the bright explosion of colour!

Insights

The large flowering clematis require a good quality soil, high in nutrients. It is advisable to dig well-rotted manure or garden compost in before planting (under the roots so that they grow down, rather than apply around the root).

Details

Flowers: May - June and September

Planting
  • Moist, well-drained soil
  • South, East and West aspects
  • Full sun or partial sunlight
Care
  • As Clematis like cool roots, try to position so that the roots will be shaded from the sun by another plant. Bear in mind the space they will need to climb and provide a suitable structure - trellis, wall, fence or other plant - to climb through
  • Remove flowers after first flowering to promote a second flowering in late summer
  • Be prepared to wait a couple of years for the clematis to be at its best
  • Can be a skin irritant and harmful to pets if ingested
  • Group 2 pruning
