Features

notes
A creeping evergreen form of Thyme, Red Carpet is notable for its carpet of crimson flowers in summer, which attract bees and butterflies. The leaves of this mat forming herb can be used to enhance fatty meats and add flavour to cream cheese. Ideal to plant in a container or use as an aromatic groundcover.
Insights

Grown in peat free compost in a biodegradable pot made from waste coir and natural latex. Remove plant from pot or cut/tear away some of the coir if the plant is well rooted and hard to remove.

Details

Flowers: May - August

Planting
  • Moist, well-drained soil
  • South, West or East aspect
  • Full sun
Care
  • Pop the discarded coir pot in the green bin, leave out for birds to use for nesting, use as mulch or add to compost heap
  • Do not over water
  • Requires frequent pruning to form a dense mat. Trim back the fine stems in early spring to allow for new growth during the growing season. You can also cut back dead flowers at the end of summer. After that, wait until late autumn to prune the woody stems of your plant.
  • Coir pots are supplied by one specific village producer in Sri Lanka. They have built a school, old people's home and extension to the local medical centre over the years from the proceeds of coir pot production
