Streptocarpus 'Sirius'
Bred and grown in North Wales and shortlisted for RHS Chelsea Plant of the Year 2026, Streptocarpus 'Sirius’ is a striking houseplant variety. It is widely admired for its large, inky purple blooms, marked with distinct veining that deepens in colour over time. The free flowering, double blooms of this Cape Primrose last significantly longer than those of standard Streptocarpus and require minimal maintenance, providing colour over many months. Part of the modern Streptocarpus hybrids bred for reliability and flair, 'Sirius’ offers excellent repeat flowering from spring through to autumn. Its rosette of deep green leaves forms a neat base, while the elegant trumpet-shaped blooms rise above on slender stems. An ideal choice for windowsills or conservatories.
- Flowers: March to November
- Tender
- Soil: Free draining, loam-based compost
- Aspect: East or west-facing windowsill
- Sun levels: Bright, indirect light
- Position in indirect light
- Water well, but allow compost to dry out a little in between
- Feed fortnightly during flowering with a high-potash fertiliser
- Remove spent flowers
- In winter, it is recommended to keep in frost-free conditions, on a sun filled windowsill and water less often
- Repot each spring
- Can be used as a summer bedding plant
