- Sow: April – May (direct outdoors once frost risk has passed)
- Flowers: July – September
- Hardy annual
- Soil: Well‑drained, fertile soil
- Aspect: Full sun
- Direct outdoors: Sow thinly in drills about 45 cm (18″) apart into a fine, prepared seedbed.
- Indoors: For earlier blooms, sow individually in pots under cover at 20–25 °C, then harden off before planting out after all risk of frost has passed.
- Thinning: When seedlings are established, thin to approximately 45 cm (18″) between plants.
Sunflowers thrive in warmth and sunlight. Water moderately, keeping soil evenly moist but not waterlogged. Support tall plants in exposed sites to protect against strong winds. Deadheading isn’t necessary for continued bloom production, as Copper Queen F1 flowers prolifically once established.
